Thibault -- A still volcano life
Thibault
A still -- volcano -- life, 2023
Oil on canvas, floating in artist's frame [mauve powder-coated aluminum]
Licked by fire and imbued with tenderness, Thibault’s landscapes highlight both nature’s precarity and its unique capacity to heal. Gestural brushstrokes roil and exude, breaking free from the land and expressing the dichotomy between nature’s comforting beauty and its inherent violence. In a luminous palette of feverish orange, humid mauve, and neon yellow, "A still -- volcano -- life" is an embodiment of a vast range of human emotion and spirituality. Small and fierce, this painting brings the fire underlying Thibault’s landscapes to the surface, igniting a hot palette of blazing orange and letting it burn.
Based in Los Angeles, Thibault uses light and color to transform their oil-painted landscapes into altered realities. Frequently working en plein air, Thibault’s paintings draw strength and resilience from the land, expressing the possibility of healing through communion with nature.
