Melting into sticky, viscous puddles, Allison Baker's 'Ice Cream Gals' expose the inevitable endpoint of pop art's misogynistic tendency to equate the female body with confectionary delights.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Hailing from Indiana, Allison Baker holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, a BFA in Sculpture and BA in Gender Studies from Indiana University. Focused on stereotypically gendered mores such as caregiving, her practice explores hegemonic femininity as a site of resistance, and translates domestic idioms into a deceptively vibrant and uncanny universe. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Studio Art at Hamline University in St. Paul.
