DESCRIPTION:
In Ian Tweedy's 'Burner' series, the artist searches archives for vintage photographs of blank walls. Continuing his exploration of the subjectivity and malleability of historical narrative, he seamlessly paints or draws images of forest fires into these tableaus.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
New York based artist Ian Tweedy works in multiple media, frequently employing items such as found photographs, cold war-era maps, and book covers as surfaces for his painting and drawing practice. Concerned with the subjective construction of historical narratives, Tweedy collects, grafts, and alters archival materials, using historical detritus as a base for the creation of new meaning through elision, erasure, and addition in image-making. A prior resident of Italy, Tweedy has exhibited widely in Europe, and is represented by Monitor Gallery in Rome and Lisbon. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center.
