Chase Barney (b. Provo, UT) is a ceramic sculptor whose hand-built vessels and sculptures explore folklore, queerness, pop culture, and the strange stories we inherit. Barney draws on his Mormon heritage to create “objects where folklore and history, faith and skepticism, the sacred and the magical can occupy the same space.”

Barney earned a BFA from the University of Minnesota (2019) and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2022). His work has been exhibited nationally at The Pit (Los Angeles/Palm Springs), Mindy Solomon Gallery (Miami), and Goldfinch Gallery (Chicago), and is held in private and public collections, including the Walker Art Center and the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection. He has completed residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (2024) and Penland School of Craft (2020), and was selected for the 2026 John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry Residency. His work has been supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant and SAIC’s New Artist Full Merit Scholarship. Barney has an upcoming exhibition at Dreamsong in March 2027. He lives and works in Minneapolis, MN.
