Nicole Havekost -- Reach
Wool felt, thread, paper, electrical conduit pipe, hooks and eye
12.5 x 14.5 x 8 inches
Minnesota-based sculptor Nicole Havekost painstakingly sews, adorns, and stuffs soft anthropomorphic sculptures that offer a poignant, joyful commentary on lived female experience. Ripe with raw physicality, these headless sculptures reflect a lifelong struggle to tame and corral the female body in a world that demands so much from it. As the artist says: "I have spent most of my life trying to control my body and make it do and be exactly what I thought it should be. Turns out your body has other desires and needs."
