Alexa Horochowski -- Novus Ordo Seclorum

Linen, felt, and gold-foil on fabric with steel hanging hardware
55 x 34 inches

Part of a series of trenchant flags born in an attempt to mark and commemorate the social unrest caused by the coronavirus pandemic, police brutality, and environmental degradation, Alexa Horochowski's 'Novus ordo seclorum' appropriates the 'Eye of Providence' from American currency, replacing its optical center with a graphic representation of a COVID-19 molecule.

Minneapolis-based, Argentine born artist Alexa Horochowski explores the intersection of the natural and manmade, questioning the sustainability of a consumer society that exacerbates inequality and undermines the environment. Working in sculpture, textiles, and frequently employing found objects, her work has been exhibited at the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
